Common types of cracks in road markings

1. The road markings are peeling or flaking off.

Main Reasons

The phenomenon of peeling and detachment of molten road markings is common, and in addition to material issues, improper construction methods are also a contributing factor.

Preventive Measures

A. When applied to cement pavements, a primer should be applied beforehand to enhance the adhesion between the pavement and the paint.

B. The road surface must be thoroughly cleaned. For new cement pavements, the alkaline surface slurry must be completely removed; for old pavements, a primer should also be applied to improve the adhesion between the paint and the road surface.

C. Ensure the road surface is dry. The construction temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius, and it is recommended to work in an environment above 10 degrees Celsius. The instantaneous temperature when applied to the road surface should not be lower than 180 degrees Celsius.

2. Road Marking Cracks

Road marking cracks do not affect their specified service life, but they do affect the aesthetic appearance of the lines.

Preventive Measures

A. During construction, ensure uniform coating to prevent cracking caused by temperature stress due to different curing speeds.

B. Appropriately control the construction temperature.

C. Prevent improper application of the coating and glass beads, which can cause fine cracks on the surface of the coating.
